Pornographic and over the top, Devil Ecstasy nevertheless presages Oshimi’s later masterworks while presenting an entirely new spin on his pitch-black worldview. There’s something irresistibly charming about the artwork, and some genuinely touching moments thanks to the eminently relatable protagonists.
