This gorgeously illustrated series is set in the Taishō Era when 15-year-old Japanese girls were officially recognized as adults and could be married legally. This episodic manga is built around the 3 year engagement period between the 12-year-old Himeko Hanatsuka, a pure, loving, diligent and well-raised young girl and the 30-year-old Bunji Tsuchiya, a nice, caring and mature Major ranked Officer. Keeping in mind that this manga is categorized as slice of life, historical, romance, there has not been any sex scenes and vulgar conversations between the main characters. Through the chapters, the readers would understand slowly how they do to nurture their relationship surpassing the age gap of 18 years. Also, the series is shown in excruciating detail of Japanese food and culture. I have not seen a manga exploiting them with this level of perfection.
