Rio Inumaru is an ordinary second-year high school student who always lives in the shadow of her stunningly beautiful best friend. Used to being nothing more than a “supporting character” who makes her friend stand out, Rio quietly harbors feelings for the only male friend who truly cares about her, Haruta.

One day, however, she realizes that Haruta is in love with her best friend. Heartbroken, Rio runs out of the classroom, only to be followed by her gloomy and plain classmate nicknamed “Shinigami-kun,” Echizenya.
